Screw Gear
Screw gear, also called crossed helical gear, transmits motion and power between two interlaced axes in space. It keeps transmission smooth even when the axes of the two gears are not in the same plane during meshing.
Sango CNC is one of the most reliable manufacturers and suppliers of screw gears in China. With abundant experience, we warmly welcome you to wholesale advanced screw gears made in China from our factory. Good service and quality products are available.
How the Screw Gear Works
Screw gear, also sometimes called crossed helical gear, is developed from double helical gears, but its helix direction is opposite to that of double helical gears. This design allows crossed helical gears to maintain smooth transmission even when the axes of the two gears are not in the same plane during meshing.
Viewed as a single gear, it is still a helical cylindrical gear. It transmits motion and power between two interlaced axes in space.
Key Specifications

Why Machine Builders Specify It
Five features that make screw gear drives reliable across industrial transmission systems.
High Transmission Efficiency
Screw gear drives have a large meshing area and more thorough tooth surface contact, so they have higher transmission efficiency. Compared to other transmission methods, the transmission efficiency of screw gear drives is above 90%.
Lower Noise and Vibration
Because the tooth surfaces of the helical gear mesh continuously, the noise and vibration generated during meshing are relatively low. This makes screw gear drives suitable for applications sensitive to noise and vibration, such as precision machinery and audio equipment.
High Load Capacity
Screw gear drives have a large contact area on the tooth surface, and the tooth surface strength is high. So they have a higher load capacity, can withstand large loads from axial and radial directions, and have a long fatigue life.
Good Self-Locking Performance
Screw gear drives have excellent self-locking performance. The gear drive can prevent reverse rotation without external force, which is crucial for applications that need to prevent misoperation or reverse rotation, such as lifting machinery and safety devices.
Wide Range of Applications
Screw gear drives suit various industrial fields, including machinery manufacturing, automation equipment, transportation, and construction machinery. They can meet the transmission requirements of different power and speed specifications.

Six mounting orientations
The same frame can be bolted base-down, wall mounted or inverted, and the motor can sit above, behind or in line. Quote the code with your order so the unit ships with the oil level and breather set for that orientation.

Base down, output up
Standard dial-table orientation.

Base down, output side
Right-angle output for wheel drives.

Wall mount, output horizontal
Saves floor space on narrow frames.

Inverted, output down
Overhead carrier and gantry work.

Motor top-mounted
Gearmotor stacked over the housing.

Motor rear-mounted
In-line drive for shallow installations.
Production Process
Every screw gear goes through five production stages, from design to finishing.

Production Process
Gear Design
Determining the parameters and types of gears based on requirements such as transmission power, transmission ratio, and working environment.
Material Selection
The strength, toughness, and wear resistance of gears and other properties need to be taken into consideration.
Cutting Processing
This is the most crucial step in the processing of screw gears, and it needs appropriate gear milling cutters or gear turning tools.
Heat Treatment
It improves the hardness and wear resistance of the gears.
Finishing
This ensures the precision and surface quality of the gears.
Industries That Use Screw Gears
Industrial Machinery: Screw gear drives are widely used in industrial machinery. They are typically used in equipment and machinery that require high torque transmission and precise motion control. Automotive Industry: Screw gear drives also have important applications in the automotive industry. In automotive transmission systems, screw gear drives are widely used in gearboxes and transmission cases to transmit engine power to the wheels and achieve different speeds and torque conversions. Aerospace: In the aerospace industry, screw gear drives are widely used in aircraft and spacecraft landing gear, servo mechanisms, and adjustable wing systems. Other Applications: Besides industrial machinery, automotive, and aerospace, screw gear drives are widely used in many other fields. For example, they are used in medical equipment, robotics, the energy sector, shipbuilding, and metallurgical equipment.
