Flange Model Indexer (DF)

Details:

The Sango DF series flange model cam indexer is a rotary indexing drive with a precision output flange that a dial plate or turntable bolts straight onto. No coupling, hub or adapter is needed. With fewer parts between the drive and the dial, the dial runs flatter and more rigidly, and the machine is quicker to build.

The flange face carries a pilot register, tapped holes and dowel pin holes for accurate, repeatable dial location. A globoidal cam inside indexes the dial through each station and holds it firmly during the dwell. A hollow flange version (DFH) is available when cables or a central shaft must pass through the output.

How the Flange Model Indexer (DF) Works

\. How It Works

The output flange is machined as one piece with the roller turret. As the globoidal cam turns on the input shaft, it pushes the turret rollers through the index portion of its profile, and the flange rotates exactly one station. When the cam reaches its dwell section, the rollers are trapped between the cam ribs and the flange holds still for your process.

The whole output rotates as one unit, so the flange works as a ready made turntable base. The dial plate centers on the pilot, locks in place with dowel pins and bolts to the wide flange face. This short, stiff load path keeps the dial flat under tooling weight and process forces.

The DF series comes in eight standard frames, from 45DF for light electronics dials up to 250DF for heavy transfer tables. Frame numbers refer to the distance between the input and output shafts. Index angle, dwell angle and station count are designed into each cam for your cycle.

Why machine builders specify it

Six characteristics that come from the cam profile rather than from control software.

Bolt On Dial Mounting

The dial plate fastens straight to the output flange, with no hub, key or coupling in between that could loosen or add play.

Precision Locating Features

A machined pilot register, dowel pin holes and tapped holes put the dial in the same position every time it is removed and refitted.

Wide Flange for Moment Loads

The large flange face spreads off center tooling loads across its bearing support, so the dial stays flat as fixtures are added around the rim.

Hollow Flange Option (DFH)

Choose the DFH version to pass cables, air lines or a secondary shaft through the center of the rotating output.

Smooth Motion at High Cycle Rates

Cam motion curves are designed for gentle starts and stops, reducing vibration and part shift on fast assembly and packaging dials.

Repeatable Station Positioning

The cam geometry sets each stop position mechanically, so the dial returns to the same place over millions of cycles without adjustment.

Six mounting orientations

The same frame can be bolted base-down, wall mounted or inverted, and the motor can sit above, behind or in line. Quote the code with your order so the unit ships with the oil level and breather set for that orientation.

Industries That Use Cam Indexing Drives

\. Applications H2: Machines That Use the Flange Model Indexer The DF series drives the turntable on rotary dial machines of almost every size. Typical uses include rotary capping and sealing machines, paper cup and container forming machines, electronic component and connector assembly dials, screw fastening and riveting turntables, printing and pad printing dials, labeling machines, ultrasonic welding turntables, and sorting machines. If your dial bolts to a flange today, or you are designing one that will, send us the dial drawing and we will match the frame and flange interface.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Everything you need to know about our cam indexers, lead times, warranties and engineering services.

What is a flange model cam indexer?

A flange model cam indexer is a rotary indexing drive whose output is a precision flange rather than a shaft. The dial plate or turntable bolts directly to the flange and is located by a pilot register and dowel pins, which makes it the simplest and stiffest way to drive a rotary dial.
