Shaft Model Indexer (DS)

Details:

The Sango DS series shaft model cam indexer is a compact indexing drive with a solid output shaft. It suits applications where the indexer drives a coupling, sprocket, gear, pulley or dial hub rather than a flange. It is the most common choice for conveyor indexing and for machines that need intermittent motion transmitted to another part of the line.

A precision globoidal cam and preloaded roller turret convert constant input speed into accurate stop and go motion, with positive locking at every dwell and no backlash. Output and input shaft extensions can be configured to suit your drive layout.

How the Shaft Model Indexer (DS) Works

\. How It Works

The input and output shafts sit at a right angle. The globoidal cam on the input shaft drives rollers on a turret fixed to the output shaft. As the input turns at constant speed, the output shaft rotates one index, then stops and locks during the dwell. The locked output needs no brake to hold position.

Because the output is a keyed shaft, you can drive almost any mechanism. Common choices are sprockets for chain conveyors, timing pulleys, gears, star wheels, or a dial hub with a clamp collar. One indexer can drive a mechanism mounted away from the drive or stay synchronized with other shafts in the machine.

For a connection with no backlash, bore the mating hub, gear or coupling to a tolerance of +0.015/0 mm on the output shaft. Station counts, drive angles from 90° to 330°, and the motion curve are all set by the cam to match your cycle.

Why machine builders specify it

Six characteristics that come from the cam profile rather than from control software.

Keyed Output Shaft

Couple sprockets, pulleys, gears, star wheels or dial hubs directly to a precision machined, keyed output shaft.

Built for Conveyor Indexing

Well suited to intermittent chain, belt and pallet conveyors, where the product must stop, dwell for a process and advance one pitch at a time.

Flexible Shaft Configuration

Output and input shafts can extend on one or both sides on request. This makes it easy to drive two mechanisms or add a pulley and cam switch.

Zero Backlash at Every Stop

Preloaded rollers keep constant contact with the cam, so the output holds its position firmly through every dwell.

Strong Radial Load Support

Heavy duty bearings on the output shaft absorb belt tension, chain pull and gear separating forces without losing accuracy.

Compact and Easy to Integrate

A small cast housing with several mounting faces fits inside machine frames and pairs with gear motor, clutch and sensor packages.

Models and load ratings

Four output styles across 31 frame sizes. Pick the output first, then size on torque and moment.

All figures at 20 °C, ISO VG 220 oil fill.

Six mounting orientations

The same frame can be bolted base-down, wall mounted or inverted, and the motor can sit above, behind or in line. Quote the code with your order so the unit ships with the oil level and breather set for that orientation.

Industries That Use Cam Indexing Drives

\. Applications H2: Machines That Use the Shaft Model Indexer The DS series drives intermittent motion wherever power passes through a shaft. Typical uses include cartoning and blister packaging machines, bottle filling and capping star wheels, eye drop and liquid filling lines, chain and pallet conveyors, printing and labeling machines, food processing lines, mask and nonwoven production, and assembly machines that transmit motion through gears or sprockets. Send us your pitch, cycle rate and load, and we will recommend the size, index angle and motor package.

What is a shaft model cam indexer?

A shaft model cam indexer is an indexing drive with a solid, keyed output shaft instead of a flange. It converts constant motor rotation into precise stop and go motion that drives conveyors, sprockets, gears, pulleys and dial hubs.
